Observing the renewable energy transition from a European perspective

RWE in Dutch Floating Wind AND Solar

German energy giant RWE and small Dutch offshore solar specialist SolarDuck team up to realize 5 MW floating solar, as part of the Hollandse Kust West offshore wind farm. The aim is to take advantage of the complementary nature of solar and wind.

Dutch competitor “Oceans of Energy” earlier realized a 50 kW floating solar platform in the North Sea, that weathered the storms handsomely. They have plans to roll out 1, 10 and 100 MW respectively.

The 55k km2 of the Dutch part of the North Sea, suffice in theory to produce half of the planetary primary energy needs. Just saying.
